Tell your M.P. to support Bill C-226

Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities are disproportionately impacted by pollutants that spew from industrial plants, abandoned oil and gas wells, and toxic dumps. They suffer the worst impacts of dangerous pollution.

These communities are disproportionately impacted by the destruction of habitat and cultural sites from mining, pipelines, and dams. This is known as environmental racism.

To date, Canada has done little to address this ongoing discrimination, but now federal politicians have an opportunity to change that.

Last year Elizabeth May, M.P. for Saanich—Gulf Islands, tabled a Private Members Bill, the National Strategy Respecting Environmental Racism and Environmental Justice Act (Bill C-226). If passed, this legislation can start to tackle ongoing discrimination in Canada.

This Bill re-introduces a widely supported legislative proposal that was initially tabled by former M.P. Lenore Zann.

Political leaders can no longer delay taking action on environmental racism. The next step for Bill C-226 is the third reading and final vote in the House of Commons; it's vital that all M.P.s show their support for this important legislation.
