Tell the Commissioner of Competition investigate misleading labelling on “flushable” wipes

So-called flushable wipes are not flushable. In fact, they harm the environment and damage our sewage systems.

These wipes do not disintegrate quickly, and cost Canadians an estimated $250 million every year in repairs. Flushable wipes are often the building blocks of fatbergs, large masses of solid waste consisting of congealed fat and personal care products that block pipes and cause flooding.

Calling these wipes “flushable” misleads consumers and results in these wipes entering our lakes, rivers, and streams, depositing microplastics and microfibers in our waterways.

That’s why Ecojustice is calling on the Commissioner of Competition to investigate misleading industry labelling practices. But we need your help.

Let’s keep these “flushable” wipes out of our waterways and sewers. Send a strong message to the Commissioner of Competition and join us in calling for an inquiry today.
