The Ontario government is using the COVID-19 pandemic as cover to broadly dismantle environmental protections.

At the beginning of April 2020, the Ford government passed a regulation that effectively suspended public consultation under Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR). Under this regulation, the government will not have to notify Ontarians or give them the opportunity to weigh in on decisions that may have a significant effect on the environment.

During an emergency like the COVID-19 pandemic, it may be reasonable to make specific public consultation exemptions. But Ontario’s approach is overly broad  and designed to continue even after the province ends its declaration of emergency.

Now, more than ever, Ontarians need to feel safe. A public health crisis is no time to weaken the rules that protect our air and water. Strong environmental laws protect the public, especially during times of crisis, and we cannot allow the Ford government to roll back protections.

That's where you come in.

Take action to protect Ontario’s environmental laws.

In a global health crisis, we cannot allow the Ontario government to roll back environmental protections.

Urge Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek to review and revoke the regulation on the Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights.
