Now's our chance to invest in a green recovery.
The federal government is about to give the Canadian economy a multi-billion-dollar kick-start in an effort to recover from the COVID-19 health crisis.
Tell your MP: Those funds must be invested in sustainable jobs and emissions reductions that get Canada to net-zero, not prop up the failing oil and gas industry.
Remind them that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in a green recovery and put Canada on a sustainable path to a safer, healthier future.
Finally, remind them that recovery spending must be grounded in law, such as a climate accountability framework that requires the federal government to set, then meet, emissions reduction targets that will get Canada to net-zero by 2050.
During this pandemic, Canada has committed nearly 10 times the G20 average, per capita, to fossil fuel corporations. This cannot continue.
Our elected officials have a choice. Lock in the status quo, accelerate climate change, and line the pockets of oil and gas executives and shareholders — or invest in a green recovery to shift Canada towards a stronger and more equitable and sustainable society.
Make sure they know where you stand.
